WHAT:  LCMS National Youth Gathering

WHEN:  July 16-20, 2016

WHERE:  New Orleans

Held every three years, the LCMS Youth Gathering provides thousands of youth and adults the opportunity to come together as a community of God’s people to learn more about Jesus Christ, the Christian faith and their Lutheran identity. During the five days of the Gathering, youth spend time together in God’s Word, worship, service and fellowship with others from across the synod. This event is organized by LCMS Youth Ministry in St. Louis.

 UPDATES

THE KANSAS DISTRICT IS SCHEDULED TO SIT ON THE FLOOR FOR THE MASS EVENT AT THE DOME ON MONDAY EVENING, July 18!

Please wear your Kansas District T-shirt (if you ordered one) to the Mass Event on that day!

NYG INGATHERING

The Kansas District has the opportunity help with a special ingathering to help create 500 hygiene kits to be given to LINC New Orleans to distribute!  LINC New Orleans partners with churches and agencies all around the city who work with low income and under-served neighbors.  They work with housing issues, conflict resolution and child care in poor neighborhoods.

As a District, we have been asked to provide individually wrapped toothbrushes and regular sized toothpaste!  If you are participating with the Kansas District Servant Event on Friday morning, July 15, you may bring your ingathering to the Convention Center with you.  If you are not participating with the Servant Event, please bring your ingathering to the Convention Center when you register for the Gathering.  These kits will be put together during the Gathering.

KANSAS DISTRICT BOOTH

Our Kansas District Booth Coordinators, Kenneth and Vicki Lessman, are looking for your help with our booth during the NYG! The booth will be open from 11:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday during the Gathering.  If your youth group is interested in signing up to be at the booth during the Gathering or if you have questions about the booth, you may contact Vicki at vlessman@cox.net or come to the booth and sign up during the Gathering to get on the schedule!  We are asking for 1-2 adults and 4 youth to sign up together.  Each group would receive on-site training.  Youth Groups from all across Kansas have had a great time taking turns at the booth.

 SWAMP TOUR

An email has been sent out to all Primary Adult Leaders about what day and time your group will be going on the Swamp Tour.  If you have not received that information please contact us.

 Background Checks

The Kansas District LCMS now requires Kansas District congregations to obtain screening and background checks for all adult leaders that attend District sponsored youth events, including the District Youth Gathering; Junior High Rallies; Lutheran Valley Retreat summer camps; and, the Teen Fellowship Retreat. Please make sure your church has conducted a background check for all adults who chaperone youth attending these events and maintain this information locally. This is a best practice.

 Thank you for your cooperation!
